The .ca domain is the top-level domain in Canada. The Canadian domain extension can be registered by any Canadian citizen or permanent citizen of Canada. The Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA) is the governing authority of .CA domain names.
A .ca domain name makes you or your company easy to find and instantly recognizable as Canadian to Internet users around the world. This is because the .ca domain name is reserved for Canadians only - people and organization are required to meet CIRA's Canadian Presence Requirements.
Canadian Presence Requirements are criteria that classify registrants according to a legal type (ie. Canadian citizen, permanent resident, corporation, trade union, political party). The legal type is a category that classifies a registrant's legal status in Canada, ensuring that the registrant has a legal connection to Canada.
For more information on CIRA's Canadian presence requirements, please refer to the document Canadian Presence Requirements for Registrants.
.CA domain names are registered on a first-come, first-served basis and you must contact a CIRA certified registrar to register your new .CA domain name - you cannot register a .CA domain name directly with CIRA. This means, you can registrar your .ca domain name via Doteasy.com, and Doteasy.com will submit your registration request to CIRA for approval. In other words, the registrar will act as the interface between you and CIRA, providing registration, renewal, transfer and information update services for you.
